Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies is yet another prestigious undertaking of Irinjalakuda Diocesan Educational Trust (IDET) managed by Syro- Malabar Catholic Diocese of Irinjalakuda. It has Mar Pauly Kannookadan, Bishop of the Diocese as its Chairman, and functions with the blessings of the Founder Chairman Mar James Pazhayattil, Premier Bishop of the Diocese of Irinjalakuda.
The College offers Programmes of BSc Psychology, BSc Computer Science, BCA, BCom Finance, B Com Computer Applications, BBA and BA English. It envisages at endowing to the Nation, a zealous group of dedicated and industrious citizens.
" To mould a new generation in integrity of virtues and in maturity of values and to form them in true wisdom according to their God-given talents for the good of the human beings by means of the noblest activity of study and by way of the most gracious quality of friendship."
The Beginning
Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies was formally inaugurated on Saturday 31 December, 2011 by Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. Oommen Chandy and presided over by Mar Pauly Kannookkadan, the Bishop of the Diocese of Irinjalakuda and Chairman of Sahrdaya Group of Institutions; in the presence of Bishop Mar James Pazhayattil, the Founder Chairman; Shri K. M. Mani, Minister for Finance, Govt. of Kerala; Shri. Thomas Unniyadan, MLA of the Constituency of Irinjalakuda; K.P. Dhanapalan, MP of the Constituency of Chalakudy; Shri B.D. Devassy, MLA of the Constituency of Chalakudy and Msgr. Sebastian Maliekkal, the Vicar General of the Diocese.
SCAS Leaps Into Her Third Annum
At the initial year Sahrdaya had just 4 courses to her credit.She is proud of having all courses advanced which are such as Bsc Psy,BCA,BCOM F & BBA . In the very virgin start of hers, she could also net the intakes complete and filled .It is to be admitted that this is a rather rare achievement .To the surprise and joy of all associated with sahrdaya she has come out with flying colours, when the first results came- a near hundred pass percentage -with all her three courses achieving centum. At the completion of the very first year two more floors were added in record time to the existing two floors -thus having a cumulative plinth area of fifty thousand Square feet in Toto.
The year next was equally eventful, with the addition of three more advanced courses viz Bsc.CS,BCOM CA & BA English -with an unprecedented acceptance -which is a pointer to the credibility and reliability of the visionaries behind. The strength of the students soared into 302 from 110 with not a seat left unfilled. When the second year opened up co-curricular activities flourished along with academic pursuits -which is an agenda strongly followed ever and cherished best by the Sahrdaya Management. During the year SCAS painstakingly energized the staff and found time to give intensive training to students with the help of Professionals from the respective fields outside. The labor found results. SCAS could position herself within the range of top ten in the Calicut University D-Zone Competitions. In the recess of Sahrdaya she has germinated a dream -A dream of conducting a Mega event every year. She hopes by way of this to imprint an image in the minds of the people in and around,who are close and distant that Sahrdaya is for real Sahrdayans -academically or otherwise. SCAS conducted endearingly termed a 'Sahrdaya Mega Fest 2013' on December 21 ,2013 a colorful program stretching 4 hours with a number of artists, from the various fields of music, mimics ,dance etc, such as Cine artists Amith Chakalakcal,Rachana Narayanakutty,Suby,....Surya T.V dancers and Mazhavil Manorama Josco Indian Voice Winners.
Virtually SCAS celebrates her third year with two more advanced courses added to the list of seven thus having nine courses running at present. To mention, they are Bsc.Mathematics and BCOM Banking -which necessitated teaching faculty strength of 38 and a corresponding supporting staff, not to mention. A four storey research building adjacent to the existing, is fast coming up in order to accommodate the growing requirements of design expansions .In order to equip the students with greater capabilities major programmes like SEEP(Sahrdaya Employability Enhancement Programme),Add on Courses on soft skills, personality development etc are regularly conducted with no fail and determination.
The whole of sahrdaya has imbibed with heart and soul the real sence of the words of our patron Bishop Mar Polly Kannokadan and Chairman of Irinjalakuda Diocese Educational Trust(IDET) that Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies should come up as one of the front runners in the whole of India.
